We Hope He's Finished Being Mean

Hello, my name is Victor Williams., a Westgate neighbor.
I am so very, very sorry to have to write a note like this. This is not my intent, but when this event was happening, I was watching the situation and thinking about how I was going to reply. I was not going to reply with violence. I was not going to reply with threats. I was not going to reply with anything negative or nasty. As I said, I considered this man my friend—though not necessarily a close friend, but I did not consider him an enemy. I considered him beyond neutral. We had conversations in the past, and I cannot remember any of our conversations being negative, not even once.
It was a bag of dog waste that was inside my mailbox. I took the dog waste and tossed it into the street. The next day, it was kicked back in front of my mailbox, so I kicked it back into the street. My neighbor across the street—the one with the Mustang, the basketball court, and a dog that used to be out there—ended up picking the dog waste up. I guess he got tired of seeing it sitting in front of his house. I did not want to touch it or remove it myself because that is what someone would have wanted me to do—handle their dog waste because it was in my mailbox.
I obviously did not know who did it, so what could I do? But then I saw this man entering my mailbox. That was a trigger point. That was the moment that made me say, "Hey, I need to tell this man, please do not do this again." And that is exactly what I did. I told him, please do not do it again. I will put a camera on my yard light—something that is very close to the street—so I can see and record if he ever comes back, or if anybody comes back to the mailbox or the garbage can. This is not something that most people want to do, but this is something you have to do when you have a person like this. This way, he understands he is being watched. He understands that the cat is out of the bag. He understands that I am fully aware of the situation, and I have my fingers crossed that he will not do this anymore.

About Your Neighbor

My name is Victor Williams., a Westgate neighbor.
I have been here for twenty-one years. I have always tried to be a good neighbor. I try to keep my property very well maintained. I try to make sure that since I am one of only a few Black people who live in this subdivision. I do not want to give Black people a bad name, so I make sure of that. I maintain my property, and I do not need someone to help make my property look like theirs. I do not want my property to look like theirs. I do not want someone to help me destroy my house. I do not want that.
I am a single man who raised three kids—three great kids, very good kids with good jobs, good careers, and good direction in life. I do not have anyone helping me. I do not have anyone helping me cut the grass or maintain the bushes. The men who cut the grass only cut the grass. Everything else is on an acre of land, and I have to do it myself. I do it myself. I have been doing it for years, and I do not want someone to help me ruin my house. That is not what I want. When people walk past my house, you are walking past your own house. You deserve to live in a nice neighborhood, and so do I. I deserve to have my house clean, and I want to be a part of the community in a positive way. Yet there are people who say bad things about me that are not true—things that have never been proven true. That is not nice and through Gods Eyes that is not good.
Anyway, again, I am so very sorry about this incident. I am sorry that when the police came into my house, they did not even have an arrest for me. They did not have anything. As a matter of fact, the affidavits stated, "In order to further our investigation, we need to perform a search warrant." My lawyer said that means they had nothing. They had been researching me for months. They had nothing, and they requested a search warrant to go fishing—to possibly find something in my house that could give them more evidence. But if they had looked at the background of what they already had, considering it was nothing, my background and their previous investigation would have already told them what they would find in my house. Yet they still came into my house, robbed me, and stole from me. I still have my state licenses and my CPL. I have no felonies and no criminal record. I do not drink, smoke, or do drugs.
And it is amazing how some people find a way to think only negatively about the Black man—the good Black man, that other Black people perceive as a good black man. But some people do not like to see that. They do not like to see it, and I do not understand why. I simply cannot comprehend that type of person. But anyway, this is my way of venting and getting out everything I have wanted to say for years. I apologize if this has been shocking, but it was necessary. Have a good day, and thank you for listening.
Your neighbor of 21 years.
